Neill Blomkamps' Next Sci-Fi Feature Greenlit

Things are looking up (unintended) for Science Fiction these days. I have felt there’s been a dearth of intelligent Sci-Fi, or even just plain entertaining Sci-Fi for years. There was a glut of it in the 1980s and then that devolved into the current (passing?) phase in Hollywood of cheap, rote horror films.
Understandable, of course, because horror movies are cheap to make, popular and don’t need expensive actors to star to make money. Studios are not willing to risk a large amount of money on a Sci-Fi movie as it’s still in the fringes of the major genres. Neil Blomkamp, however, proved that with a good story a smaller budget can produce intelligent and profitable Sci-Fi.
Also, there’s a possible sequel to District 9 in the FAR future. I felt the ending of District 9 hinted at that. While I don’t think it’s necessary, I enjoy binge drinking and so as it goes with any good thing: I want more.
